2012 Olympic Ad Campaign – “Thank you, Mom”

“Thank you, Mom” Olympic Ad Campaign

Thank You Mom Olympic Advertising CompaignThe 2012 Summer Olympics in London are just around the corner and the Olympic advertising campaigns are here. I believe that Procter & Gamble is doing an amazing job of recognizing the countless hours of hard work that every loving mom invests in their children’s future. The P&G Olympic advertising campaign definitely struck home when they say “Being a mom is the hardest job in the world. But it’s also the best.”

We all love this new rendition of the original “Thank you, Mom” ad that was launched in 2010 for the Winter Olympics. The new Procter & Gamble “Thank you, Mom” campaign from Wieden + Kennedy is heartwarming to say the least. In the video, raw emotion is dramatically displayed as mothers all over the world raise their children to become champions. “Thank you, Mom” is only found online and the video is titled “Best Job | P&G London 2012 Olympic Games Film” with a tagline that reads, “The hardest job in the world is the best job in the world.” Although there may be ridiculous political fall-out from this Olympic ad due to the “full-time motherhood” debate, I think we can all agree that anyone, male or female, who takes the time to support their children is a hero.

Procter & Gamble’s Youth Sports Fund

P&G Thank You Mom Olympic Advertising CompaignProcter & Gamble is a Worldwide Olympic Partner and their actions prove it. P&G has started a new “Team USA Youth Sports Fund” that was created to give kids broader access to youth sports and to help moms raise happy, healthy children. This noble fund raiser will run through the London 2012 Olympic Games with a goal of raising $500,000.00 for the Team USA Youth Sports Fund. P&G is also sponsoring 28 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The 28 Olympic athletes Proctor & Gamble is sponsoring have won over 375 international medals and more than 60 Olympic and Paralympic medals. These incredible Olympic athletes will represent 13 of P&G’s iconic brands including Tide®, Crest®, Duracell®, Gillette® and many more at the London 2012 Olympic Games this summer. As part of their fundraiser, starting today, for every new “like” on the P&G ‘Thank you, Mom’ Facebook page, P&G will donate one dollar to the Youth Sports Fund, up to $100,000. Real Olympic Moms

It makes sense that P&G would make a video about moms. “P&G is in the business of helping moms, not just moms of Olympians, all moms, all around the world,” said Marc Pritchard, P&G Global Marketing and Brand Building Officer. In order to make sure the message was received, P&G made nearly 20 versions of the film to be distributed all around the world in several different languages. Conclusion

If you don’t know, I am a Dad, not a Mom. However, this does not mean that I do not completely agree with P&G’s statement. I work very hard to be the best Dad I can be and I know that every loving mother tries to be the best mom they can be too. I know that I can’t stop my little one from falling down and getting hurt but I do believe that with love and support, my child will grow to be the best she can be! That is what this Olympic ad is all about, showing love and support for your children.

So save your political “full-time motherhood” debate garbage for next year, because I am a Dad and I love this ad for everything it represents. I love this ad for everything it stands for and everything that it conveys. It’s not about who raises the children or whether you are a stay at home mom or not, its about love. In this Olympic advertising campaign, Procter & Gamble chooses to honor moms and everything that they do to help their children succeed, and for that, I applaud Procter & Gamble for making such a commercial and I would also like to say, “Thank you, Mom.”
